"Today we were able to hold the Matjes Competition 2023 with six motivated teams at the Conerus School in Norden. Exciting matjes creations were prepared. Two teams from Austria were also there.
Niklas Dähn from Sielhof, café and restaurant, Neuharlingersiel was able to take first place. Followed by Monika Wechselberger and Christina Hofer from the Tourism Schools Salzburg, Bramberg. Ian-Paul Tausendfreund from the Hotel Alte Werft Papenburg and Fynn-Ole Salmen from the Hotel zur Post Wiesmoor took third place. Lucian Theiler from the Hotel Bethanien Langeoog and Isak Budweiser Alexander Hörfarter from the Tourism Schools Salzburg, Bramberg were able to take fourth place. The special prize from the audience jury was awarded to Morandi Bloch and Fynn-Ole Johanningmeier from the Emden vocational school.
The jurors praised the sophisticated and creative recipes of the Emden Matjes. Thorben Grübnau, Vice President North of the Association of German Chefs (VKD) Michael Kunst, Head Chef, Klaas Müller, from Emder Matjes Fokken and Müller Dr. Christoph Stecher, Wilhelmshaven, Company: acs Coating Systems GmbH were active as jurors.
Robert Peris from BBS Wittmund and Christian Mutter from BBS II Emden organized the competition for the Association of Chefs East Frisia and Papenburg e.V.
Mr. Norbert Göttker and Mr. Dirk Becker from the Conerus School North were active as hosts and support the participants and jury, thank you very much for that.
We congratulate all participants and wish them all the best for their future careers. There will be another competition next year and we hope that such great trainees will take part again."
