 
            Emden Herring Competition 2023
"Today we had the pleasure of holding the 2023 herring competition at the Conerus School in Norden with six motivated teams. They prepared some exciting herring creations. Two teams from Austria also participated."
Niklas Dähn from the Sielhof Cafe and Restaurant in Neuharlingersiel took first place. He was followed by Monika Wechselberger and Christina Hofer from the Salzburg Tourism Schools in Bramberg. Ian-Paul Tausendfreund from the Hotel Alte Werft in Papenburg and Fynn-Ole Salmen from the Hotel zur Post in Wiesmoor came in third. Lucian Theiler from the Hotel Bethanien on Langeoog and Isak Budweiser Alexander Hörfarter from the Salzburg Tourism Schools in Bramberg took fourth place. The special prize from the audience jury went to Morandi Bloch and Fynn-Ole Johanningmeier from the Emden Vocational School.
 The judges praised the sophisticated and creative recipes for Emden Matjes herring. Thorben Grübnau, Vice President North of the Association of German Chefs (VKD), Michael Kunst, master chef, Klaas Müller, of Emden Matjes Fokken and Müller, and Dr. Christoph Stecher, Wilhelmshaven, of acs Coating Systems GmbH, served as judges. 
Robert Peris from BBS Wittmund and Christian Mutter from BBS II Emden organized the competition for the Association of Chefs of East Frisia and Papenburg eV
Mr. Norbert Göttker and Mr. Dirk Becker from the Conerus School Norden were active as hosts and supported the participants and jury, many thanks for that.
We congratulate all participants and wish them all the best for their future careers. There will be another competition next year, and we hope that such great trainees will participate again.
